The journal is dedicated to different linguistic perspectives on the intersection and interplay of language and gender. It publishes contributions from all areas of linguistics, provided they contain insights into the relations of language and gender in its broadest sense. No specific linguistic approaches or theories are given preference. Papers accepted for publication are strictly selected on the basis of scientific quality.

Gender Linguistics is an Open Access journal owned and controlled by the linguistic community, with no financial barriers to publishing for authors. Authors are only asked to make a voluntary author contribution if they have access to institutional funding or grants for this specific purpose.

The journal was founded in 2025 by the Association for Diversity in Linguistics, div-ling e.V, and friends from the linguistic community. It is run on funds of div-ling e.V. and voluntary author contributions.
